Our Methodology
The UNRUSH Quality Label is an independent digital distinction. It evaluates how a slow-travel agency is positioned, perceived and recognised across its website, its content and its external visibility. It measures digital authority and clarity — not operational compliance — using AI-assisted analysis of publicly available data, scored strictly and consistently against a fixed rubric and reviewed for accuracy. This page explains, openly, what we look at and how the labels work.
What we evaluate
Every agency is assessed across four pillars, made up of eleven criteria:
1. Positioning & clarity
- Slow-travel positioning — whether a genuine slow, immersive and responsible approach is central to the brand, not a passing marketing line.
- Offer clarity — how clearly you can tell what the agency sells, to whom, and where.
- Differentiation — a distinctive, memorable identity (a method, a niche, a founding story) rather than interchangeable claims.
- External recognition — reviews, awards, memberships and other credible third-party signals.
2. Content authority
- Editorial depth — a genuine body of content aligned with slow, responsible and sustainable travel.
- Freshness — evidence that this content is kept current.
- Thematic coverage — how broadly and consistently those themes are treated across the site.
3. External visibility
- Press & media — mentions and features in credible media and industry publications.
4. Sustainability
- Commitment — a clear, structured stance on sustainability and responsibility.
- Concrete actions — specific, documented practices, named projects and partners — not just words.
- Transparency — published charters, certifications or commitments that can be verified.
Relevance comes first
The label certifies agencies genuinely specialised in slow, responsible and sustainable travel. Generic travel content — destination round-ups, visa information, food tours without a slow or responsible angle — does not count towards these pillars. Being a travel agency is not enough on its own; the substance has to be there, and it has to be visible.
The five labels
Combined, the pillars position an agency within a five-level system of digital recognition:
- Essential — a foundational presence, with slow-travel intent beginning to show.
- Professional — a clear, consistent positioning and a developing body of aligned content.
- Established — a solid, coherent presence with genuine authority across several pillars.
- Distinguished — strong positioning, documented commitments and real external recognition.
- Excellence — best-in-class: documented, verifiable and consistent slow-travel authority across the entire site. This level is rare by design.
Labels are structured indicators, not a ranking. They are there to help travellers understand how an agency is positioned within the slow-travel ecosystem — not to declare one agency "better" than another.
How agencies earn — and improve — a label
Scoring is deliberately strict: most criteria reward specific, documented, consistent evidence rather than marketing language, and the top of each scale is reserved for the exceptional. That leaves room to grow: a label reflects an agency's positioning today, and it evolves as the agency deepens its content, documents its practices and builds its visibility. We re-evaluate as agencies improve.
Independence
Certification and labels are grounded in the UNRUSH charter. A label is never bought — agencies earn their position by meeting our standards, and our editorial recommendations are kept separate from any commercial relationship. To protect the integrity of the system, the exact weightings and internal calculations behind the score are not published.
